we introduce you to:
MYCOCHAR is a mycorrhizal root inoculant tailored specifically to be used when planting trees and other woody shrubs. Spores from a wide variety of mycorrhizal fungi are responsibly (and painstakingly!) gathered from wild growing mushrooms and carefully blended into char fines from sustainably managed coppice woodlands, acting as the perfect carrier medium. The result is a granular material that is a convenient and effective way to deliver a great diversity of the right kinds of spores directly to the root systems of young trees at planting time, giving the opportunity for those all-important mycorrhizal relationships to establish from the earliest moments in the tree’s life.

MYCOCHAR introduces a diversity of beneficial mycorrhizal spores directly to tree roots. Ideal if you are planting new woodland, hedgerows, agroforestry and orchards.
Mycorrhizal fungi form symbiotic relationships with trees, significantly increasing the surface area of a tree’s root system. This enhances water and nutrient uptake, optimising the tree’s growth and disease resistance. These fungal networks also play an important role in the soil food web, improving soil structure, soil carbon sequestration and overall ecosystem health.
In the long term, given the right environment, these mycorrhizae may also start to form edible mushrooms.
-Contains spores from over 30 mycorrhizal species (20+ of which are edible).
-Responsibly hand harvested from wild mushrooms.
-Over 2000 spores per gram, carried in charcoal fines from sustainably coppiced British woodlands.
-Provides suitable mycorrhizal partners for any tree
-One-time treatment, easy application.
Please note: All mushrooms must be properly identified before eating.
Planting instructions
-Sprinkle into planting hole or directly onto the roots when planting in final position.
-Approx. 2 tablespoons for large bare root or container grown trees.
-Approx. 1 teaspoon for small bare root trees planted close together e.g. hedgerow or new woodland.
-Take care not to inhale the dust.
Storage: Keep tightly sealed in a cool dark place. If possible, we recommend storing in a fridge or freezer – this will prolong spore viability to at least one year but for best results use within 5 months of purchase.

“I recommend using a mycorrhizal inoculant for trees and shrubs, and Mycochar would be my product of choice. Few other inoculants contain species that could give you edible mushrooms, and for edible growing projects the extra chance of great mushrooms coming up as a bonus crop is too good to pass by.” -Martin Crawford, Agroforestry Research Trust
